New Chinese Video Art From the Collection of Dr. Michael I. Jacobs

New York City – Now You See is the first exhibition in New York to survey the work of young Chinese video artists, through the eyes of the collector Dr. Michael I. Jacobs, who has been collecting Chinese video art in depth since 2010. The exhibition, drawn from his collection, brings together 18 rarely seen works by 10 young artists, mostly born in the 1980s, and includes multi-screen projective installations, animations, single screen projections and monitor works.

A fully-illustrated catalogue will accompany the exhibition, with essays by Robin Peckham, writer and curator based in Hong Kong, and Dr. Melissa Chiu, Director of Asia Society Museum, and an interview with Dr. Jacobs by Chrissie Iles, Anne and Joel Ehrenkranz Curator, Whitney Museum of American Art.

Now You See, Contemporary Istanbul

Contemporary Istanbul will take place 13-16 November at Istanbul Congress Center (ICC) and Istanbul Convention and Exhibition Centre (ICEC). The leading international art fair in Turkey brings both local and international focus to the dynamic art scene in Turkey's vibrant metropolis every November.

New Horizons, a section of Contemporary Istanbul which offers an annual focus of contemporary art from a selected geographic region will this year put a spotlight on China. The New Horizons section explores contemporary artistic expression of surrounding countries of the region. Having previously featured contemporary art from Syria, Iran, the Gulf and Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, the 9th edition's focus is on China, hosting galleries, artists, curators, publications, art critics and collectors from China in Istanbul Congress Center.

“Now You See” Exhibition of Dr. Michael Jacobs that will be exhibited in CI’14. An exhibition to show Chinese video art, features 18 pieces by 10 young Chinese artists, and includes multi-screen projective installations, animations, single screen projections and monitor works. The works are displayed through the eyes of collector Dr. Michael I. Jacobs, who has been collecting Chinese video art in depth since his first visit to China in 2010. Inspirations include references to Western performance, body art, cinema, animation and conceptual art, yet are still infused with traditional Chinese art and cinema.
